IPTV Black Screen With Sound But No Picture: How to Fix It

IPTV Black Screen With Sound But No Picture: How to Fix It

A black screen with working audio is a classic sign of an HDMI handshake failure or a video codec the display cannot decode — the audio pipeline and video pipeline are separate, and one can fail while the other keeps working. It is rarely a dead channel on the provider side.

Reset the HDMI handshake

Unplug the HDMI cable from both ends, wait ten seconds, and reconnect. This forces the TV and the streaming device to renegotiate resolution and HDCP copy-protection handshake, which is the single most common fix for this exact symptom.

Try a lower output resolution

If your device is set to output 4K and the TV or a cable in the chain cannot fully support it, picture can drop out while sound continues. Temporarily set the streaming device's output to 1080p in its display settings and see if picture returns — if it does, the issue is 4K HDMI compatibility, not the app.

Swap the HDMI cable and port

A worn or non-certified cable is a frequent cause of exactly this symptom on long runs or with older cables. Try a different HDMI port on the TV and, if possible, a different cable rated for high-speed 4K signal.

Still black after a restart?

Restart both the TV and the streaming device fully (unplug for 30 seconds, not just a soft reboot). If the black screen only happens on specific channels, check whether the source is a lower-bitrate feed by reviewing our 4K streaming requirements. If it happens across every channel and every app, treat it as a general connection or hardware issue rather than an IPTV-specific one.
